Monsoon motorcycle care: seven checks before the rains

A chain lube, a brake check and a dry-air test for the headlight: a quick weekend checklist.

  1. Check tyre tread depth with a coin.
  2. Clean and lube the chain.
  3. Test both brake levers.
  4. Seal the headlamp and tail-lamp casings.
  5. Replace worn visor seals.
  6. Check the battery terminals.
  7. Carry a rain cover and a puncture kit.

Spend extra time on the chain: clean with a soft brush, wipe dry and lube with a chain spray. A dry chain rusts in a week of rain.

Replace tyres with less than 2 mm of tread. Wet roads add up to 30 percent to your braking distance, so leave a longer gap.

This is a demo story: every name, place, organisation and figure in it is fictional.
